On a related note, we have a large collection of Gorey stuff at work. Why, I don’t know other than a previous special collections librarian liked his work. It’s neat, but also way outside our collecting scope. We also acquired a bunch of offprints that sat in boxes for years until we made office Christmas cards out of some of them and then finally shredded  the rest.

Popularity really isn’t a consideration. It’s finding someone with the right letter that I can kill with a decent rhyme and who I know well enough from their posts to be fairly certain they will appreciate being the butt of the joke. It also helps if they’ve been posting recently so they’ll likely see it.

It has nothing to do with being notable. It’s more whether I can think of a good smart ass rhyme and if I know enough about the person to be pretty sure they won’t be offended.
